She is a kindergarten-8th grade Catholic School Principal overseeing 478 students and is finishing her Ph.D. in School Administration. She was a Time-Warner National Principal of the Year semi-finalist in 2007, and was nominated by her staff and school board in 2008 for the National Distinguished Principal of the Year. She also led her school to an Exemplary School Award in 2007. She taught special education for eleven years and has had the opportunity to coach Special Olympics for over five years. Special Olympics provides athletic training and competition to 2.8 million athletes with cognitive disabilities in 200 different sports and events in over 180 countries. Her commitment with Special Olympics is three-fold: to promote volunteerism in the organization, increase athlete participation, and educate the public on understanding and having respect for individuals with disabilities.
